| Summary, etc. | 19 June 1999 - 9 August 1999 this expedition aimed to attempt the unclimbed and<br/>untried North Spur o f Latok III (6949m) from the Choktoi glacier in the central<br/>Karakoram, Northern Pakistan. The unexpected steepness and unhelpful lower rock<br/>faces made an Alpine style attempt unlikely and considerable aid necessary. This<br/>combined with frequent serac collapses and snow avalanches on the lower slopes and<br/>approach to the mountain meant that the attempt was abandoned.<br/>The expedition therefore turned itself to other objectives. The first ascent of<br/>Hanipispur South (6047m) via the North ridge was achieved. An ascent was made o f<br/>the North West ridge o f Biacherahi Tower (5800m). Members also put up a steep<br/>route on the west wall o f the Doug Scott Spur, which was also climbed to the summit.<br/>Other multi pitch rock routes were created on subsidiary ridges o f Latok III and<br/>Choktoi (Trident) Peak (6166). |
